De/Construction of (National) Identity at the time of Mass-Media

Sinzig, Germany, 15-22 August 2014 

We are happy to announce the call for participants for the training course De/Construction of (National) Identity at the time of Mass-Media, which is to take place in Sinzig near Bonn (Germany). This training course is designed to provide space for young members and volunteers of youth organizations to question relations between culture, nationalism and media in modern societies, as well as to create an opportunity to understand the way culture was constructed through the time. Further more, understanding modern phenomena such as mass-media, globalization and the ways its affecting citizens in their local communities will be addressed within the training course through very interactive approach absed in non-formal education methodology.

Location: near Bonn, Germany

Dates: 15-22 August 2014

Age of participants: 18-35

Who can apply: active volunteers and members, camp leaders, youth workers

Financial conditions: Each participant will get his/her travel costs according to travel reimbursement rules stated in Erasmus+ guide, checked through the Distance You may find the Distance Calculator on the following link:

It is enough to enter your city of origins and destination in Germany (Bonn) in order to get the overview on set travel costs, which you could expect to be covered. More precise information will be sent together with the info sheet.

Participants can also expect 100% food and accommodation to be covered by the project.

Aims and Objectives:

  1. To raise awareness of complexity of identity and culture;
  2. To understand different terms we use when we speak about culture, such as culture, national culture, discrimination, cultural shock, identity, stereotypes, prejudices…
  3. to identify stereotypes which exist in modern Europe towards different minority groups;
  4. To make links with their daily realities in their own communities and reflect on how often they take part in the process of intercultural learning;
  5. To try to understand the influence of media over shaping and understanding the culture in our minds;
  6. to identify reasons for discrimination of vulnerable groups
  7. to discuss concept of national culture
  8. to reflect on media influence of creation of national culture concepts
  9. To understand the interdependency of cultures in globalised world;
  10. To try to find the ways we can fight the stereotypes and discrimination in our local communities and promote peace and understanding between different groups and cultures.

Due to the late answer from the National Agency and time pressure, partners who do not send the participants within the set deadline, will be replaced with other partners from same or other countries. Therefore we kindly ask you to make sure to send the participants in due time.

The info pack with all the information will be sent to participants after the selection results – latest on August 1st.
