"Get in the game"- project

The Carpathian Foundation-Hungary  is the lead partner in the implementation of the international project „Get in the game!”. The cross border partner is the Karpatská nadácia. We implement a mirror-project in  the framework of the Hungary – Slovakia Cross – Border Co-operation Programme 2007 – 2013.

The overall purpose of the Project is to improve opportunities for educated but disadvantaged youth to be successful at the labor market. The Project aims to expand working skills of young people aged 18 - 30 who live in these border regions by means of a tangible working experience in non – profit organizations. The Project develops key skills, knowledge and social capital of the involved young people. We help to solve some issues on the local level with the engagement of NGOs

Project Activities

The Project was launched with a training meeting of project partners. At the meeting, the partners completed the creation of a volunteer work model based on their experience with similar initiatives. On 11 April 2013, a working conference of partners, students and experts took place in Eger, Hungary.

Two-month volunteer internship in non-profit organizations

Students – participants in the internship program spend April and May volunteering for non- profit organizations, and  are involved into their programmatic or administrative activities. This internship will provide the students with experience in the field they major in or they are interested in. Such training will be of utmost value for them once they start searching for a job at the labor market. Also, the program offers a thorough insight into operations of non – profit organizations. During the two-month internship, the  students will work 20 hours per month and will be supported and supervised by assigned mentors.

Selected organizations and students

Within the internship activity, on 22 March we organized a preparatory kick-off workshop for the  selected 10 Hungarian involved non – profit organizations and the 10 students – volunteers .At the workshop, we presented the entire project and its activities. The students and organizations introduced themselves and got to know one another better. On 16- 17 May, an exchange of experience and best practices took place in Eger in Hungary for the Hungarian and Slovak participants.

In 6th-7th June of 2013, the closing public event and a conference will be organized  in Kosice with the purpose to present the outcomes of the Project and to propose how to make use of the outcomes when searching for solutions of youth joblessness
