The Union Values Programme is supported by the European Union's Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme, which aims to strengthen and promote European values by supporting civil society in the EU Member States.
The aim of the programme is to create cohesive and active civil society communities, whose members work together to form new partnerships, develop as organisations, expand their methodological knowledge, while also implementing concrete campaigns. The first call for proposal was open to projects that will help ensure that everyone in Hungary can enjoy their rights, participate in shaping their own lives and have a say in our common affairs, regardless of where they come from, how they think or what their circumstances are.
The Union Values programme supports civil society organisations that promote the respect of rule of law and democracy as well as the implementation of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights in the Member States. The projects supported under this call should promote, protect and raise awareness about the common rights and values enshrined in Article 2 of the EU Treaty (respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, including gender equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of people belonging to minorities) and contribute to civil dialogue, transparency and good governance in order to promote democratic values and preserve civic space. The programme aims to suppor activities that promise to make a measurable (verifiable) change in these areas (i.e. something will be different and better than before) and where this impact will be sustained after the project has ended, i.e. there will be a concrete afterlife of the work done.
In the first call, national CSOs can choose between two types of applications. ’In Partnership - national and regional applications’, target larger, national CSOs working in partnership with smaller, rural organisations and citizens' initiatives. The maximum available grant in this category is EUR 60 000, for projects lasting 12-24 months.
The 'In Development - Institution Building and Project Proposals' are mainly open to small and medium-sized CSOs outside Budapest that are already carrying out or planning to start activities related to the values set out in the programme. The maximum grant available in this category is EUR 20 000, for projects lasting up to two years.
In the second call, national CSOs can choose one type of applications. ’In partnership, in development, in action!’ is open to Hungarian CSOs to support campaigns and actions of short duration to tackle a current social problem and help us all to live up to our rights guaranteed in the European Union. The call for applications is continuous!
The opportunities are part of the national component of the European Union's new programme for direct support to civil society organisations in the Member States (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values - CERV). The grants for Hungary will be channelled to Hungarian civil society through Ökotárs Foundation, Autonomia Foundation, Carpathian Foundation-Hungary. Grantees will also receive organisational development support provided by the Hungarian Association for Community Development.
