At the beginning of June, we held a two-day professional meeting in Eger as part of our Early Years Matter program. The workshop was attended by representatives of our partner / supported organizations, professionals organizing early childhood development programs, the staff of our foundation and Éva Szomor, a special education teacher, early childhood development specialist who has been helping the successful implementation of the program for many years.
At the meeting, we reviewed the progress of the supported projects and the effects of the institutional closures and restrictive measures taken as a result of the pandemic on development programs. These effects, while the vast majority of them naturally held back professional work and the continuity and thus the success of the program, surprisingly contributed in some cases to the success of closer relationships with families and collaboration with institutional professionals such as kindergarten teachers.
Éva Szomor, who participated in the workshop as a professional consultant, gave lectures on interesting topics on both days, which were supplemented by informal discussions. We covered the importance of the daily agenda and organized everyday life, which not only provide a framework for children, but are also of great importance to parents. We discussed the role of parents in relation to early childhood development, and it was again stated that programs with children can only be successful with their cooperation. Finally, we took a look at how professionals working in these organizations can “train” parents during the sessions with children, and also develop their parental competencies.
